‘The Birth of Deinos’ is my solo show in New York City, on the 15-19th July at Ouchi Gallery in collaboration with Shadow Plastic. The five first Deinos figures will be sold here along with a selection of giclèe canvases and prints. If you’d like to get ahold of a Deinos toy, this will be the only chance for the next two months.

The end is here. They are done.
The first 5 have been painted and are now ready for the exhibition in New York. 5 color ways and a run of 5 toys per figure. There is a high chance of there being less than that in each run due to the ridiculous amount of work involved in casting, prepping and painting Deinos.

Launch party and solo exhibition “The Birth of Deinos” by Bard Vandal at Gallery Ouchi from the 14th to 17th of July. More details very soon. Sign up to the mailinglist to get it first! This exhibition (and potential the next one) is the ONLY place where Deinos will be sold for the next couple of months. Priced at $125 dollars.

Paint Job

Started doing the paint job on the first finished Deinos figures. These are looking pretty good, all things considered. It has been a very long and time consuming process with results that I think are quite good given the resources I have available. It is very hard to make a perfect toy in an apartment without professional equipment. Still, it’s gone surprisingly well and I am really looking forward to finishing the first batch of toys!

Plugging Air Bubbles

Thanks to a tip on Flickr, I got myself some Magic Sculp to fix my problem with air bubbles and hollow feet. This stuff really works! It takes quite a lot of time but it works, so all is well.

Deinos First Cast

The first complete casting of Deinos!
The project is going quite well so far, there are some problems with air bubbles in the resin and the first body cast did not get enough resin at the top of the feet, so it’s come out somewhat hollow. I may have a solution for this and will be giving it a try again this weekend. Hopefully it will be fruitful… I’m coming to the conclusion that I simply cannot get 100% perfection in my figures, and that this is the nature of not having professional resources and doing everything at home. This is an art toy, so it will have imprints from the process and the artist on them. It’s a unique toy in that regard, it’s not factory perfect. And that’s fine.
